You are work toward big goals, your team has big challenges and your company is in need of a win. According to the latest research there are five major barriers to change:
- Do not understand reasons for change
- Do not feel involved in the change process
- Are skeptical due to past failed change efforts
- Competing priorities create change failures
- Systems, process and incentives do not support change
There is one common theme here and that is “the culture.” Let’s explore how culture drive behavior change and ultimately results in transformations inside a company that directly impact customer satisfaction and employee satisfaction.
Put in place the critical capabilities to sustain change. Employees want some level of change because 67% think that change programs have a positive impact. You can’t fix everything. Focus on a critical few behaviors with the most culture impact to sustain change. Think beyond leadership and communications basics, the internalization of change needs to expand change capabilities. Start to move informal levers like storytelling, relationships and other areas that can influence change.
How critical is culture to business success? After PWC reached out to 2200+ executives and corporate leaders one trend was clearly established. Over 87% said culture is critical to business success. That doesn’t say 20% or 5%. During interviews of 10 successful executives, 8 out of 10 said without a successful culture their company will not succeed. Moreover 61% said that culture is the single biggest factor in their company success.
The Booz & Company’s annual study shows that spending more on R&D won’t drive results. The most crucial factors are strategic alignment and a culture that supports innovation.
