Peter B. Nichol was officially credentialed as the first, global, Master of Business Relationship Management (MBRM®) on October 7, 2019, in New Orleans, LA.
The Master of Business Relationship Management (MBRM®) is a culmination of a BRM career, earned and awarded in recognition by BRM Institute and our single, global BRM community. The MBRM® signifies the applicant has gained exceptional BRM knowledge through personal learning and experiences while making significant contributions/impact on personal purpose, company purpose, the local and global community, the BRM discipline, and society overall.
The BRM Institute identified the need of CEOs and other business leaders to converge business, IT, finance, HR, and other business functions as strategic partners in sharing ownership of business strategy and business results. A BRM capability is the only capability that converges these business functions as teams and promotes a culture of shared ownership through the BRM discipline.
“I’ve had the good fortune to enable and build world-class teams, partner with the most respected global leaders, and help young, eager minds find their purpose in a complex business world. My curiosity has guided me to discover how to build lifelong relationships and design environments for organizations to deliver with excellence. Earning the Master of Business Relationship Management (MBRM®) is a culmination of a lifetime of discovering hidden organizational value by driving collaboration and building trust. Transforming culture is challenging and difficult, but it’s also extremely rewarding to be part of organizational evolutions. The BRM Institute is a model for how relationship managers connect, orchestrate, navigate to discover, recognize, and celebrate value delivered to organizations. I’m honored to be the first globally credentialed Master Business Relationship Manager by BRM Institute, a wildly successful organization now spanning 85 countries. I welcome the opportunity to help shape and continuously grow with the BRM community.” — Peter B. Nichol

According to the BRM Institute:
- The business relationship management discipline comprises a set of skills and methods that can be learned and adopted by individuals, whether or not they fill a BRM role. For example, while certain people may be certified to drive public transport vehicles (bus drivers, licensed taxi drivers, etc.), anyone can learn to drive and follow the rules of the road.
- Beyond being a role or discipline, business relationship management is deployed as a capability in its most impactful state. A BRM capability is comprised of everything it takes—both visible and behind the scenes—to bring business relationship management to life.
- Business relationship manager is a role performed by an individual either as an explicit or implicit part of their job. It serves as the strategic interface between a business function and one or more business partners to stimulate, surface, and shape business demand for the function’s business assets and capabilities. It alsoensures that the potential business value from those assets and capabilities is captured, realized, optimized, and recognized.
- BRM as a philosophy highlights the components of the BRM discipline, capability, and role, which are already answering this shift in business culture. The series widens the lens on BRM and demonstrates that the strategic and tactical skills of BRMs have a broader use in the world at large.
